How can we make our cities more livable—socially just, green, and financially stable?
By the administration leading by example.
We look back on the fifth Saarland Municipal Sustainability Conference, titled “Sustainability Starts at City Hall,” which was a resounding success. Together with the Service Agency for Municipalities in One World (SKEW) and the Ministry of the Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture, and Consumer Protection, we provided local government representatives with an excellent opportunity to network and exchange ideas, and we facilitated the event.
Among the guests were Mayor Barbara Meyer of Saarbrücken and Mayor Andreas Veit of Nohfelden, who shared their practical experiences in response to a presentation by Dr. Christian Raffer from the German Institute for Urban Studies (Difu).
During an open discussion session, participants had the opportunity to engage in dialogue with Dr. Raffer on the topic of the sustainability budget, with Lucy Becker from Ottweiler on her partnership with Costa Rica, and with Rike Rumpp from Spiesen-Elversberg on the topic of communication.
