3 facts about biodiversity
Biodiversity and the associated ecosystem services are not only the basis of our existence, but also a key factor for economic success.
Companies benefit directly from intact ecosystems, whether through the resources they use or through the services that nature provides, such as clean water for production, pollination services for agriculture or raw materials from forests for the paper and furniture industry. These dependencies are often not immediately apparent, as supply chains can be long and confusing. At the same time, companies’ activities contribute significantly to changes in ecosystems, for example through deforestation, which leads to the loss of habitats, or through emissions that contribute to the acidification of water and soil. According to the Global Risks Report 2024 of the World Economic Forum (WEF), the loss of biodiversity is one of the greatest long-term risks to our economy.
The importance of biodiversity is increasingly recognized in the ESG landscape. Regulatory requirements such as the EU disclosure requirements under the CSRD oblige companies to assess and transparently report the impact of biodiversity on their business as well as the impact of their business activities on biodiversity.
At :response, we support companies in identifying these impacts and dependencies and integrating biodiversity goals into their corporate strategy – for sustainable and positive change.
